Yesterday THE Journal – a leading education technology publication – announced the winners of its 2020 New Product Awards, and we’re excited that Cameyo was selected as the best new product in the “Virtual Desktop/Thin Client” category (full list of winners here). 
THE Journal is dedicated to informing and educating K-12 senior-level district and school administrators, technologists, and tech-savvy educators to help improve and advance the learning process through the use of technology. The 2020 New Product Awards honor “the outstanding product development achievements of manufacturers and suppliers whose products or services are considered to be particularly noteworthy in the transformation of education technology.
“Perhaps more than ever, 2020 has been a year defined by the use of technology in education. We’re pleased to recognize these products that are making a difference for students, teachers and administrators alike,” said David Nagel, editor-in-chief of THE Journal.
Cameyo’s Take
Obviously it’s always exciting to win awards. But the fact that this is the first year THE Journal has done these awards as a way to highlight technology providers who have played a particularly strong role in helping schools & districts through all of the challenges of distance learning – that’s what makes this one feel particularly special to us.
In a time where almost every school & district is struggling to put systems in place to ensure the best possible education experience for their students, it’s been incredibly rewarding to be able to help so many organizations through this shift to distance learning. Back at the end of September we announced that we had deployed Cameyo for 34 school districts in 30 days, and since then that number has grown to 49 districts.
In the announcement we made in September (full version here), we included three of our new school district customers who shared why they selected Cameyo and what the results have been thus far. The fact that we have such vocally supportive customers (like these three school districts and dozens more) likely played a big role in THE Journal selecting us for this award, so we want to express our gratitude for all of our customers’ support and advocacy.
Most of these school districts had thought that their only option for enabling students to access all of their Windows software from home on any device was virtual desktops, which in many cases they simply couldn’t afford (or didn’t have the staff to manage the complexity). These districts perfectly illustrate a point that we make frequently here at Cameyo, which is that it’s all about providing people with the right technology based on their needs. Here at Cameyo, we’re focused on helping all organizations to right-size their approach to desktop & application virtualization. Virtual desktops are great for people who truly need that functionality, but for districts who just need to give their students virtual access to all of the critical software they need to complete coursework from home – utilizing virtual application delivery in those scenarios drastically reduces the cost & complexity.
At this point it’s become clear that distance/remote learning – and/or a hybrid model where kids are at home some days and at school the rest of the days – will continue to be the reality for quite some time. So we’re happy to be here to continue to help schools & districts (and organizations of any type and size) continue to give their people access to all of the software & applications they need, on any device, from any location. And we’re honored that our efforts with school districts thus far has been recognized by THE Journal as the best new product for virtual desktops/thin clients. Rest assured that we’ll continue to work hard to ensure we’re always deserving of awards like these.
